Ancient Greece Odyssey

Ancient Greece Odyssey is my ever-growing personal site sharing my photos, memories, and knowledge of ancient Greece.

I'm a storyteller, artist, and poet as well as a student of classics and mythology.

I love classical Greece, despite its flaws (e.g. misogyny). I love its mythology, its gods and goddesses, its art, its architecture, its bleak and rugged landscapes, its sparkling islands.

I enjoy bringing these things to life in a way that's hard to do in a classroom setting (although I try), because in school, you have to test students, make sure they learn key facts, events, dates, etc. I want to help others catch the same sense of awe and fondness that I have for old things.

I talk about art, archaeology and history, but I also tell stories and myths. I describe what kinds of flowers are growing in the ruins, and what the rock of the Acropolis feels like under bare feet. You can't find that in a library book.

I've included useful links and book recommendations for both the general public and serious student/scholar.

I took this trip in 2005 with my mentor Dr. Chris Downing, an accomplished scholar with many books on ancient Greek goddesses, gods and religion, a rare feminist who blends rigorous academic scholarship with goddess spirituality.

I'm uploading and expanding this website in fits and starts as my studies and erratic health permit. So far I have covered Athens, Eleusis, and Delphi, and I'm working on Nauplion, Mycenae, and Tiryns. I'll also be sharing my memories of Epidauros and several Greek islands, including Delos, Naxos, and Thera/Santorini.

Please stop by and browse. This is what I have to give the modern world: my love for and knowledge of the ancient one.
